We have some exciting news to share with you from the first leg of the Triple Crown. The General Clinton Canoe Regatta 70 miler has just added a new professional (for prize money) category, the C4 Unlimited Pro.
The C4 category has been on the rise in the past couple of years and it doesn't seem like it was that long ago that I remember the first General Clinton with the division. I personally competed in my first C4 race this past year at the Adirondack 90 miler in the unlimited division and I was slightly surprised with how many other C4 boats I saw out for the race. It was then I new that the C4 class was here to stay. This latest news just shows you how much and how fast this division is growing.
If you go to the General Clinton's pro payout page HERE, you will see that they are currently putting up a prize purse for the C4 Unlimited of $1750 to be split over the first 3 places. It gets even better when you see the disclaimer under the payout, the race organizers are looking to increase this purse if they are able to secure more sponsorship.
This is some exciting news that has the potential to really change the outlook of this race. If the prize purse jumps up a little bit, I am confident that you will see some top pros that normally place below the top couple of spots jump to this division to grab some extra money and accolades. That will inevitably open up the top 10 of the C2 pro class form some up and coming racers and should make for an even more exciting event.
Currently, the C4 Unlimited Pro class will pay out $1000 for first place, $500 for second, and $250 for third. This class should be a fun one to watch as these unlimited C4's with some top pros in them will go extremely fast down the Susquehanna. I don't know about you, but I am excited to see how this turns out!
